no "aaagh", I decided to smarten up my horn so stripped it and resprayed it and generally gave the once over, new gasket, screws etc., but was careful not to lose the existing settings. Put it back together and tested it. Plenty of ooo but no aagh ???, I tested it without the engine running if that makes a difference but the battery is full, I keep the car on a battery tender.
Also how do I wire a relay, I have a 4 pin 6v relay, usual pins, 87(horn)?, 85(earth)?, 30(power)?, 86(horn button)?, where does the second wire for the horn come from ?
You`ve probably come to the conclusion that I know absolutely nothing about electrickery by now.........................................

Hi!
On the model A, the trigger for the horn relay would be on the ground side (85M) not the hot side (85s) as the horn button provides a ground when it is pushed.

leave it as is-every time you pass a pretty girl, hit your horn...............

oooooooooo! ooooooooooooo!

Did you oil everything up real nice when you put it back together?
You want that puppy to spin free and easy.

The ooooh is when the motor is spinning up to speed. the gaah is as it is slowing down. I have found that when I have had this as you describe, I was able to fix it by lubricating the motor at both ends of the shaft with a very light weight lubricant. It is the momentary coasting down as the power is removed that produces the gaaah. I have found that I have to periodically lube it to keep it turning freely.

As Vince mentioned, you must have the diaphragm clocked correctly. The V wedge must seat squarely in the valley of the wavy washer, or it'll never sound right.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

The diaphragm should be installed so the diaphragm stud lines up with the ratchet wheel. See the attached photo, first one of proper diaphragm stud line up and a second photo of incorrect diaphragm stud line up.

What would us `would be` restorers do without forums like this. I can only say thanks to all who respond to requests for help.
I will now start over and see if I can get it right..........:

Don't oil "too much" and be careful to not tighten on your cover "too tight" as it affects your horn's sound. I use 10 W sewing machine oil on the felts in Long Island winter and 30 W straight oil in summer. You said you left "all the settings" as was? If that included the adjusting screw, turn it in and then out at the engine RPMs you expect to do your Ah HOO Gah in.
Good Luck !
