Suggestion for FordBarn improvement:

gee glen makes me feel like i need to pack it all on the AA and make a trip . i have found that having my location info does two things.. it allows others near by to know we may be neighbors and can help each other and it gives credibility that i am real and willing to show that trust to others so they may too feel the same.

I'm not sure how it helps to know where someone is? I've met more people locally then I have ever online, but I do seriously respect what information is available through places like the fordbarn.

On another site, we show our addresses so that parts swapping can be done quickly and easily. Plus, it can be hard to lift a cab all by yourself. :)

“Nicknames” have been around forever, that won’t change. In North Dakota, “Herman” will still call himself “Slim” and it doesn’t matter. Not a big thing and not necessarily paranoia. True identity has more to do with pet peeves than being a real issue. If you want to contact somebody on FordBarn it is easy to send a private message. I have never received a rebuff to a private message, just the opposite.

Someone said “An identifiable person is going to be more responsible and polite than a clever anonymous screen identity.” I don’t think there is any evidence to support that, in fact the “stalking and insults” on the old Fordbarn was often done by someone who used their real name.

We have met some really nice people on our travels as a result of a private message to them through FordBarn. Posting a location on the forum made that easy and it was a great benefit on those trips, so I support that idea.

McHinson,I didn't even notice my location wasn't with my name.I do know that on other sites I screw up and don't get it right, but I never look at my own name here.My screen shows text and to see the info on the left I have to walk the screen over.I had no idea how many posts I have made and just saw that I am a senior member, whatever that is.Can that get me a senior discount?

I`d be insulted if a barner pasted thru my little town an didn`t try to look me up and let me buyem a cup of coffee an let me bend thier ear a little while. Model T Monte Andrews Vici,Ok. way out west almost to the dropping off edge part.

I am frustrated in that I like to help people and without their general location it is a waste of my time to look up places to go to solve the problems they are posting about. Their loss I guess.

My location is part of my user name. Glenn in Camino is Glenn Johnson in Camino California, 12 miles East of Placerville, about half way between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. A little bit of heaven with a heated garage in the Sierra foothills. The leaves have changed and we're expecting a little snow next week. You're welcome to move here but only if you're a Model A guy.

Hey Glenn, I might take you up on that offer.

Might be coming thru that way in an RV early next year.:D

Same goes here, I live 200 kms south of Sydney on the beach , so if any of you are touring thru in rv/s, feel free to park over night.

Have a beer and talk about model a/s or winnebagos or old british bikes..

The whole screen name and lack of an address seems to be an integral part of general practice; I can understand why people are cautious about online identity, but imagine if everyone had a real name showing...a lot of the horrible misbehavior we saw on the old barn, with stalking and insults, would probably have never happened.
An identifiable person is going to be more responsible and polite than a clever anonymous screen identity.
All the old car boards have lost good people to rude, agressive misbehavior.
More identity can be better.
thanks, Bruce, but you missed the point.
I have no problem with online nicknames instead of real names.
I just wish folks (like you) would identify their location.
does not even need to be really specific.
I don't know if you are in Mississippi or Saskatchewan,
but if I did it would make reading your posts more credible and enjoyable.
:-)

Chris,I never noticed that I had not included my location in my header until you brought it up.I had no reason to walk my screen the the right and look at my own name.It is like the telephone number in the middle of the dial on my phone, why look at it?I know my own number.I am thinking of all the times I have posted, where I am prices are this or people around here are that.I think I usually say here in N.H.because nobody has ever asked just where the hell are you?I just thought my address was under my name like others.I added it,now I may shoot for a picture.

Good suggestion. I am in the witness protection program and I still put down my city and Province. That's because no one knows where Frankford is.

You mean the wild turkey capital of Ontario on the western end of the Bay of Quinte?

I have no problem with a general location and the ability to contact people through PMs. But thee are far too many people who lurk and troll the Internet fishing for suckers to have everyone list their personal information right up front. if you need more information, ask, but it's not safe to post every bit for every person to see.

Adding my location was one of the first things I did when the new barn was started. Just in case someone happens to be passing by on I-80 and wants to see what I have for parts. So far that has not payed off, but all are welcome to get ahold of me and browse abit. Also would be happy to help out if you break down in this area or just stop and visit. Rod

Didn't notice my location WASN'T there under my name here! I think I assumed my whole ID from the HAMB carried over...will put it in there as soon as I have enough coffee to clarify the process.

Tinker - I love your reply (I am where I am.. till I'm not there any more, then I'm some where else.), sooooo truthful in most cases. I also see you may be a snow-bird with the MN/FL location.

I agree with the majority that a location (even a general one) is informational. Especially if one is asking for help and there is that helper just a few miles down the road. I also agree that there would have been more "ownership" if some had used their names and addresses on the old Fordbarn.

Posting to see if my location is now really in there...then I gotta run down to the garage and check the trip wires on the claymores. Mebbe I'll flip the lever on the water-melon patch mounted BAR to "Rapid" while I'm down there...

Most people where I grew up call me Rowdy, so that is not a real stretch for me. I also know many people from the barn and Ahooge. Like the old saying go's, "Those who know me, know me well. ect."
